Promoting Employees to Take Pride in their Work Areas

Employees can also do their bit to take care maintain clean workstations. Here are some tips on how you as an employer can promote them engage in keeping a clean and professional work environment:

  • Create a designated closet or shelf area where all the cleaning supplied and equipment will be kept, such as the dusters, cleaning solutions, rubbing alcohol and microfiber rags, cleaning wipes, ect.
  • If everyone is committed to cleaning his or her own workstation meticulously on a regular basis, then it will help the whole office area look much cleaner. Equipment on the desk, like the monitor, phone, keyboard, and stationery, as well as the desk itself, should be dusted once every day to help keep the cubicles looking clean.
  • Lights and electrical equipment gather dust if they are not wiped off, be cautious of this and arrange to clear the dust from the lights and lighting fixtures on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Floor cleaning is a necessary part of office cleaning. Linoleum or tile floors look best when they are vacuumed and mopped on a daily basis. Older floors should be waxed and stripped at regular intervals to remain in their best condition.
  • The refreshment area should be cleaned regularly. Posting a polite sign to remind employees of this is a good idea. The tea and coffee area may attract flies and other kinds of bugs if it is not kept up, by keeping counters wiped and if the trash is not emptied.
  • Each employee should have a wastebasket near their desk clean by emptying it regularly.
  • Encourage employees to be tidy, if you notice they have staples scattered in their work area, coffee rings or crumbs around phones, keyboards or on the floors, mention the importance of being mindful and careful to keep their work area neat and clean.
  • ALWAYS remember to exercise good safety measures. Leaking faucets, naked wires and sharp objects can pose dangers to the environment and should be attended to promptly to reduce risk and promote a safe workplace.
